That Halloween is on a Sunday this year has my feeds all abuzz with somewhat anxious talk on when we’re going to observe Halloween.
(You know, because Sunday is a school night as well as a day of worship and rest, which I suspect is the true genesis of the angst.)
WHNT has a story on it. The question gets asked every few days in a Facebook group I follow. My favorites are the ones wanting to know what “they” are doing about Halloween. Hey folks? I am they. You are they. You don’t need permission from Our Betters. (I promise.) You need to stop wringing your hands about it.
It’s two or three hours the evening of October 31. If you don’t want to participate, leave your light off and don’t answer the door. (This is something else that works reliably without checking for sanction from “they.”) If you do, then young people in disguise will knock on your door and ritualistically beg for food for said two or three hours. It’s reliably over by 9 pm here. That’s probably a pretty solid number most places.
(Too soon to tell whether worrying mommies will make their tykes were coats over their costumes, which really used to piss me off.)
