BoWilliams.com On Huntsville Hot Wings: MK Wings

This is part of an ongoing series reviewing hot wings in the Huntsville area. Visit #HsvHotWings for a comprehensive linked list.

It certainly was marvelous to get out with Aaron today, two days before his senior year starts, and have some hot wings. MK Wings came recommended by my longtime friend Gail, and I was excited to give them a try. They’re in the end of the shopping center near the southeastern corner of Jordan and Holmes.

(And Gail actually came in toward the end of our meal! Too cool.)

MK Wings offers boneless or bone-in wings, and if you go bone-in, you can get whole wings or split! How about that? There are a dozen or so sauces. We were advised that Mango Habanero was the hottest, and we both dialed that up. My 10-piece split wing combo, with an enormous pile of fries and a drink, was $14.16. Counter service was friendly and efficient.

Quality: 9/10. We had to wait just a few minutes, but we could see our wings being fried fresh, so it was no problem. They were of pleasingly robust size and served at perfect temperature. I was happy to have plenty of sauce left over for some of my fries.

Flavor: 9/10. Oh wow, these were yummy. There was a consistent sweet heat vibe that Aaron said seemed vaguely Asian to him. On the back end, there was a vinegar bite that balanced the front appealingly. We really enjoyed these.

Heat: 5/10. As I ate I had these at a 3…then 4…and finally 5. There is a slow build to the burn that finally gets you a little flush and sweat by about the seventh wing. It diminished quickly after we were done. No problem for a chilehead, but maybe a bit of a hill for a novice.

MK Wings has debuted auspiciously indeed. I’m looking forward to returning.
