Thursday miscellanea #599

  • Charlie Watts has been the Rolling Stones’ drummer since 1963. Now 80 and recovering from a procedure, he will have a substitute on this year’s tour. I can remember hearing the 1994 single “Love Is Strong” and thinking they must be pretty close to retirement. I have never seen the Rolling Stones, but as I type the average member age is just north of 77. It’s hard for me to believe the live experience isn’t significantly diminished.
  • Aaron told me yesterday he can’t wait for football season to start. “High school, college, or pro?” I asked. “All, but mostly college and pro,” he replied. I’m ready for a game or ten on the tube. Still torn about whether I want to put any money directly into the NFL, though. I’d love to have a Tagovailoa jersey.
  • Regular readers know Bachan’s Japanese Barbecue Sauce is one of my favorites. Well, there’s a new half-gallon size. Life is good.
  • Picked up some Heineken 0.0 after encountering some positive commentary on such. It’s really pretty tasty. I’m not sure I’d know the difference in a glass.
  • I used to see a Volkswagen Golf Harlequin around town. It wasn’t something that appealed to me, but different strokes, blah blah blah. I had no idea until today that there were less than 300 ever produced worldwide. That was a very rare car I was seeing!
  • Robin Miller is doing a bit better and his Wednesday IndyCar-centric Q&A column on Racer.com is returning this week. So glad to see that. I’ve missed the Mailbag, but that he’s feeling well enough to do it is the main thing. Go Robin!
  • I cooled back off on a Surface, mainly because the 10″ ones I would choose from have been out a while and replacements are due. Instead I reset my Stream 7 and I’ll carry it a while longer. It’s a bit poky with some things, but it certainly is easy to tote. (I wish there were more market for a decent 8″ Windows tablet.)
