The interminable Trump interregnum

I’ve mostly stayed out of Trump’s post-election nonsense. But I also mostly expected it to be over by now.

So we are clear, Trump’s post-election behavior has been illegitimate and dangerous from the beginning, and he has millions of people genuinely believing that this election was stolen.

By extension, this means that millions of people genuinely believe that, of the 50+ times Trump or his allies have had their legal actions thrown out of court, that every single time there was a corrupt judge responsible—another player part of the conspiracy.

Occam’s razor, anyone?

This piece in The Atlantic is rather pessimistic about the damage done to the Republican Party—not only during Trump’s administration, but in the immediate aftermath, when many more Republicans should have opposed his outrageous behavior and rhetoric, but snuggled up to him instead.

I’ll be watching. I still think he’ll mostly peter out. I mean, right now he’s a jackass who’s the president, and in five weeks he’ll just be a jackass. I think the incessant carnival barking will become tired in a hurry without the power.

We certainly need someone on that side of the aisle besides Donald J. Trump to stand up and say “this is the way forward.”
