Thursday miscellanea #568

  • Chuck Yeager has slipped the surly bonds of Earth, put out (his) hand, and touched the face of God. RIP. Thank you, sir.
  • Started Hillbilly Elegy last night, but it didn’t take after about 15 minutes so I quit. Then I went to sleep watching Runaway again. Synth-heavy soundtracks from early to mid-’80s sci-fi films get a little more marvelous every year.
  • Want a great life tip? When you have an unpleasant task that will smell bad enough to possibly make you sick, rub a generous amount of VapoRub on your upper lip. Often, this will eliminate the smell completely. The rest of the time, only a fraction of it will get through.
  • Nathan is after me to get my 55-gallon aquarium going again over the Christmas break. I may. He wants a lionfish. That’s a possibility. Another one is taking it back fresh and doing the Amazon tank I’ve always wanted to do.
  • The COVID-19 pandemic has definitely been a net negative for sports in general, but there’s an upside to the madness. With all of the rescheduling that has been necessary, you can pretty much watch football every day now. Tuesday and Wednesday used to be hard.
  • Lea made the first peanut brittle of the season last night. It was divine.
  • There’s an excellent possibility I’ll be doing some writing at a prominent, new-to-me Huntsville-area site soon. Watch this space.
