Olympics redux

I blogged about the Olympics once already. Don’t think much of them. I find them a sprawling manifestation of hypocrisy and corruption, and I think they have the entertainment value of an insurance seminar. As far as I’m concerned, the best thing about them is that they’ll end a few days before the college football season starts, thereby eliminating the potential for knuckleheaded programming decisions.

I do hope they’re a political and public relations disaster.

Obviously, I don’t want anyone hurt. God knows, enough of that happens in Red China already. I do, however, hope that the Olympics are severely and sustainedly embarrassing for the brutally thuggish regime hosting them, as well as the thoroughly corrupt money-grubbing scum that allowed said hosting to occur. I want protests. I want interviews with the minorities who may not be served at pubs during the Olympics, or perhaps the 1.5 million people who have been evicted. I want air that stings the eyes and throat relentlessly. I want Taiwan to declare full independence just as the opening ceremonies begin.

I want messes made, and I want said messes to lead to reforms that stick.

  1. I’m with you. For all that I love gymnastics and diving, I’ve decided that my own little human rights protest will involve NOT watching the Olympics. In addition to the things you’ve mentioned, let’s not forget that most of the money that goes to the government of the Sudan comes from China, and we all know what the government of the Sudan is doing with some of that money.

  2. Well…so far so bad. One American killed and another seriously injured in a knife attack. Russia has invaded Georgia. Don’t you just love how the Olympics bring the world together for a short time?
