BoWilliams.com On Huntsville Hot Wings: Super Wings & Burger

This is part of an ongoing series reviewing hot wings in the Huntsville area. Visit #HsvHotWings for a comprehensive linked list.

I met my old friend Paul today to give Super Wings & Burger a go. This is the latest occupant of the middle of the shopping center just south of the Chevron on County Line Road in Madison. Wings are the main attraction of the menu, but they also have a few sandwiches and salads available, as well as fried tilapia and shrimp. There are a few tables, but it looks set up for takeout to be the main thrust.

Paul spoke highly of his cheesesteak. But you know me—I’m here for the wings. There are numerous sizes available—solo, or a combo with fries and a drink—and nine different mostly familiar sauces. I was advised that Hot is the hottest, so that’s how I ordered. I did the ten-piece solo.

Quality: 6/10. My six flats and four drums were freshly fried, pleasingly sauced, and served at the perfect, just-a-bit-of-steam temperature. However, they were definitely on the small side. I never get dressing unless there is celery, so after specifically asking that question, I ordered blue cheese. Then, quite oddly, I got a single piece of celery.

Flavor: 5/10. A full point for freshness, but these tasted right down the middle of generic buffalo wing. I finished them, but there was nothing distinctive about them.

Heat: 2/10. Very little happening here. I’m confident there’s nothing putting heat into this recipe except off-the-shelf Louisiana hot sauce. For the hottest offering at a place where wings are the centerpiece, these were absurdly mild.

Super Wings & Burger is rather close to BoWilliams.com world headquarters, so I’d love for it to be a worthy stop. Alas, this wasn’t it. Watch for a validation visit soon.
