BoWilliams.com On Huntsville Hot Wings: Tenders

This is part of an ongoing series reviewing hot wings in the Huntsville area. Visit #HsvHotWings for a comprehensive linked list.

Tenders has been in my consciousness for decades, but I’ve never thought of anything but chicken fingers when I see the sign. I recently learned that they also sell wings.

I visited the Wynn Dr. location in Huntsville for lunch recently. The model is classic fast casual: order and pay, then they call your number and you go get it. I only had to get my fountain drink before my wings were ready. I got six for $6.38, with one piece of celery. (They get steadily less expensive up to 100, which are $97.56.) The hottest of seven flavors is XHot, and that’s what I ordered.

Quality: 4/10. My three drums and three flats were cooked properly and served at an appealing temperature. Alas, they were definitely on the small side. I stretched to get two bites out of a flat.

Flavor: 6/10. They were good, but very predictable; right down the middle of “buffalo wing.”

Heat: 3/10. Maybe a little spark, but that’s all. I didn’t detect anything but Louisiana hot sauce.

Tenders is still a solid stop for chicken fingers and that delicious Tenders sauce. However, there are numerous better choices for wings.
