Thursday miscellanea #611

• We had an enjoyable evening out at Tom Brown’s this week. Our food and our table service were both excellent. However, Tom Brown’s needs to rethink the rigidity of its seating policy requiring all members of a party to be present. Certainly this is sensible and should be enforced when there is a crowd, but Lea and I were made to wait to sit in a restaurant that was two-thirds empty. (This even with a reservation, and assurance that we would purchase drinks as soon as we sat.) Let’s have a little common sense, folks. This isn’t the kind of behavior that fosters goodwill.
• I’m glad my Ukrainian-born professor and friend, Dr. Ostap Stromecky, didn’t live to see this invasion of his home. Hoping for a swift end to this nonsense.
• We met Mia’s girlfriend this weekend and had a lovely dinner. She seems delightful. Wish she were a little more geographically convenient.
• Encanto carries an important message. The visuals are stunning, and the music is glorious. The writing, alas, is uncharacteristically sloppy for Disney. Most prominently, the setup is long and undisciplined, taking nearly a third of the film.
• I’m playing Nerdle and Quordle every morning now. Limited to these operations and this length, I think I’ll remain undefeated at Nerdle for some time. I’ve already lost twice at Quordle, but I’m riding a five-day streak right now.
• Looks like we’ll flirt with freezing this weekend, and then no forecast for such for the next ten days. If it’s not blooming yet, it will be soon.
• IndyCar starts this weekend! Watch NBC starting at 11 am CST for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
