Thursday miscellanea #614

  • Kentaji Brown Jackson has been confirmed as the first black woman on the U.S. Supreme Court. This is historic news, and congratulations to her. I do, however, think it’s unfortunate that apparently so few of us take issue with President Biden leading with “I’m going to nominate a black woman.” What could possibly be more objectifying? What does that remind me of? Just nominate her!
  • No more new watches for the rest of the year. There. I told you, so now if I get another one I’ve lied to you. Thanks. I’ve amply demonstrated to myself that I need this accountability.
  • Took a long weekend/short week at the beach last week. Drove just ahead of the storms all the way down Wednesday last week, and then had agreeable weather 90% of the time for our stay. Love the Fort Morgan area.
  • My niece Rebecca was 12 last week. She is a sweet girl but we still have to choose restaurants that have chicken fingers and mac & cheese because she eats like she’s 5. Whatever else may or may not be the case with our children, they’ve always been adventurous eaters.
  • I do Nerdle and Quordle every day. Wins are typical. I’ve never lost Nerdle (47-0), and I’ve won 25 Quordles in a row (42-3 overall). I play Wordle if it looks interesting on Twitter. I’m trying Heardle most days, which I still habitually get with the first second or not at all. I play Octordle some of the time, and lose some of the time. I tried Duotrigordle once and lost by a turn. I may try again sometime but it takes so long.
  • So Dad was gushing about Yellowstone the other night and I didn’t think I could watch it without commercials, but turns out I have it on the first paid tier of Peacock (which I have for several months a year for IndyCar coverage). Perhaps my expectations were overly elevated. I’ve watched the first four episodes, and not only am I not hooked, I’m not open to being hooked. It’s not bad, but in a world of Breaking Bad, Justified, Mr. Robot, Black Mirror, Ozark, etc., “not bad” isn’t good enough. Smelling like I’m walking away.
  • Ready for mid-30s on the way to church Sunday morning?
