New Cosby trial begins; does anyone but the plaintiff care?

My various feeds dutifully continue to keep me up to date on Bill Cosby, presumably because I’ve written about and searched for him a few times over the years. Apparently a new trial has started, and his attorney Tom Mesereau is in full attack dog mode. The plaintiff is a con artist who wants Mr. Cosby’s money, blah blah blah.

Do you care? I mean, it’s important to the plaintiff, obviously, but what about you? Is there anything left to evaluate here? Is there anything that could happen in this trial that would change your view of him?

By his own admission, he is a serial philanderer. By his own admission, he obtained Quaaludes with the intention of drugging young women with whom he wanted to have sex, and did so on at least one occasion. These are not things still to be determined. These are facts. So how newsworthy is his trial, really?

I wrote Making Peace with Cliff Huxtable at Rocket City Mom about three years ago. I just read back over it, and though the legal narrative has advanced, I don’t see any viewpoints I would change. Cosby’s decades-long message was very good. We just have to break it off and separate it from the messenger.

It still makes me sad. As ingrained as Bill Cosby was in the culture of the American family, I’m not sure how it couldn’t. And I’m not sure I need the trial updates. I may shake things up a bit and see if they fall out.
