The Sarah Palin of 2009 would have endorsed Ted Cruz. He is a legitimate threat to win the nomination, and essentially a Tea Party Republican.
The Sarah Palin of 2016 has instead endorsed Donald Trump. He is a legitimate threat to win the nomination, and essentially an insatiable media whore, willing to say whatever keeps the lights and cameras on.
And like endorses like. Whatever shreds of mask that remained have now fallen.
Look, I stayed much too long at the fair with Sarah Palin. I admitted as much. But as of yesterday, for sane people, a principled defense of her as a sober and serious political force should be quite impossible.
If you’ve not yet abandoned Palin as useless or even harmful to genuine conservatism–if you’ve been clinging to some decaying rationale that she’s something other than a ceaselessly opportunistic attention slut–then yesterday’s endorsement should have handily disabused you of that notion.
