- Didn’t do the taxes yet. Planning to get up early this (likely rainy) Saturday morning and get over the hump, if not all the way in the can.
- It was a pleasure to spend some time with the Huntsville chapter of the American Association of University Women this week discussing human trafficking. Would you like me or another member of the North Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force to speak to your group? Just let us know. There is no charge. This is what we do.
- If I usually wish you a happy March birthday, you probably only just heard from me this week. Nothing personal; you weren’t the only one. That circuit didn’t fire in my brain in March. I apologize. I blame the black helicopters. (Don’t forget my April birthday, though. Usual deal—strict $1500 budget for my gift. I don’t want to put anyone out.)
- So I haven’t watched any this year, but I gather from headlines and grumbling and what-not that I see in my feed that baseball has added a “shot clock” of some kind? Is that on the hitter? The pitcher? Both? (Wow, this jackass can’t be bothered to Google it?) Whatever the case, that’s a shame. Unlike many other sports that should be rigidly timed, baseball should have no clocks at all. This will badly damage or destroy multiple dynamics that define the spirit of the game.
- Today was the first day for Limestone County to collect our garbage with an arm on the garbage truck, and as it happens, I was home for it. They dropped the bin and it crashed to its side. I’ll monitor that for a bit, and if that’s going to be a thing I’ll let Limestone County know I’ll be receiving a replacement bin at no charge if their collection procedure tears it up.
- I’ve never Ubered anything—myself or food—but my American Express has a $10 credit per month available for the opt-in (no additional charge). So maybe I’ll order food once a month. Knocking $10 off looks like it brings an UberEats order down to defensible.
- Going into a new downtown Huntsville place for lunch tomorrow with Gail, the best work wife I ever had. Watch for a report.

I am pretty much an old school boomer baseball purist. And, I was extremely wary of the pitch / batter’s clock new rule. But after a week of games, it has definitely cut down the average time of a game. You don’t really notice the “clock” part of the game, except in the few instances where a ball or strike is awarded. Players have adapted quite easily. Baseball has an issue attracting new fans, and the length of games is an issue (I agree it is very difficult to sit in a ballpark for 3.5 to 4 hours for a typical game).
Long story short, this boomer thinks there is a noticeable improvement, and I am also ecstatic that the shift is banned, too. (grumble grumble the shift was a TERRIBLE thing)
I may have to watch some ball to coalesce an informed opinion about all of this. I didn’t realize the shift had been banned too. That hits me as pretty artificial.
