Thursday miscellanea #454

  • I’m only netting a little more than six hours of sleep per night with my new schedule, and it’s not enough. I had to go to bed very early last night to catch up. I’ll have to do some tweaking. I hate to give more awake time away, but the point is to do something sustainable.
  • I tried The Wire as a treadmill show but I don’t think it’s going to work. There’s too much street jargon that I have to listen to very carefully to understand, and I don’t want to leave closed captioning on. My friend Cheryl suggested Fringe. Maybe I’ll do that.
  • My affection for fried food has waned considerably since the start of the year. This is a good thing. I can enjoy it once in a while without it being a regular part of my diet. (Gee, I think that’s where I was supposed to have it filed all along.)
  • We’re getting a Dave & Buster’s at MidCity (the development occupying the old Madison Square Mall property). This is a long-wanted franchise, so welcome news for lots of folks. I’ve never been to one. I hear they’re fun.
  • My first hard crush lost her battle with cancer last month. Kim and I had kept in touch over the years, but despite several near misses, I hadn’t seen her in person since high school. It’s surprised me deeply how much I’ve thought of her since her passing. Holding her family and friends up in prayer.
  • Well, Josef Newgarden is officially Darth Vader this year, and he’ll be running the #1 car, as is his privilege as the defending champion. I teased him a bit on Twitter about it and he replied with a Darth Vader GIF. Nice. Good luck this season, man!
  • Hope you’re planning to attend the Community Kite Festival Saturday! I’ll be at the North Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force booth. Please come say hello. The weather is supposed to be cool and lovely.
