I just joined Soroptimist International. I carried a little angst to my first meeting last night, but it dissipated quickly.
I considered this for months before deciding I could bring myself to it without being an unhelpful distraction.
There are several reasons to support Soroptimist International. Most prominently, the organization promotes education for girls and women, which dovetails well into causes that already have my robust support.
Educated women are less vulnerable to those who would exploit them, whether they be sex traffickers, abusive spouses, harassers in the workplace, or anyone else who would seek to limit them on the basis of femaleness.
I believe I can stand, agitate, and act for that effectively and sincerely. And so I shall.
