I have a lot of strange errands and appointments right now. I’m in town with unexpectedly recovered time between two of them, so I’m blogging from the truck on the southwest corner of Jordan and Holmes.
The largest chapter of my professional life to date comes to an end this week, and another chapter begins next week.
Maybe they’re not chapters. Maybe they’re novellas, at least. To be sure, I’ve picked up additional roles and responsibilities over the years, but at the end of this week I’ll leave a customer I’ve supported continuously for more than 16 years.
I think the move is a good one. (I mean, I’m making it, right?) I think it’s an appealing mix of new and familiar, and I’m enthusiastic about getting in and engaging.
There are things I’m sad about leaving, too. But many amazing things happened to me over the course of this stint, and I want to be in the moment for different amazing things with this change.
I told one of our church founders (who was, coincidentally, also my boss’s boss’s boss at Intergraph long ago) that I was “just seeing what the next day brings!” He laughed and said “well, we don’t have much choice, do we?” I replied “I quit trying to call it a long time ago.”
(That’s expressed a bit simplistically, but you get the gist.)
