- I said what I had to say about the Afghanistan mission at large. Certainly there is plenty of better-worse to add about particulars of its final phase and ending. I’m sad and I’m angry, but even so, I’m not sure I’ll be doing any of that adding.

- Don’t think I’ve ever gotten a flu vaccine as early as mid-August, but I did today. Apparently you can just walk up and get a shingles vaccine at Publix now too. I’ll do that soon.
- South Huntsville has a new Vietnamese place that is promising indeed, based on my initial visit with Mrs. Heflin today. Watch for a review soon.
- I just started season four of The Wire, and I will finish the show. While it is well done, it does not make my short list of best ever.
- The last oval of the 2021 IndyCar season is Saturday night at Gateway. This is a speedy mile and a quarter, and typically makes for a good race. In other fantastic news, Iowa is back for a double-header next year.
- Well, the out-of-nowhere tornado warning last night was a little disturbing. Preliminary investigation today indicates no tornado damage in the Athens area.
