I heard from Dianna Toomey, the founder and CEO of Briva Organic Infused Still Water, a week or so ago. She asked if she could send me some of her product to review, and I agreed to do so, with the stipulation that I would review it honestly and disclose my receipt of it free of charge. This is that disclosure.
Products like Briva have traction because we need to drink water, but frankly, water gets boring. (Coca-Cola is more exciting, and then Jack Daniel’s is more exciting again, but gee, those drag their own demerits into the equation, don’t they?)
So Briva gives you that water, infused with organic flavor (and indeed, apart from filtered water, the only ingredients are organic flavors). It is “still” water, which I am presuming to mean it is not carbonated. It comes in 16-oz. bottles with nice wide necks and openings, for an agreeable drinking or pouring experience.
Of the three flavors in the variety pack I received, I’d call only lemon mainstream. There is also blackberry, and finally—I could give you 100 guesses and you wouldn’t hit it—watermelon tangerine. I mean, if I tell you it’s watermelon tangerine and you raise it to your lips with the expectation “this is watermelon tangerine,” then you may well nod after you taste it. But part of me can’t help but wonder if the creators arrived at this flavor and then said “what does it taste like?” to name it.
Which is not to say any of the varieties are unpleasant. No product like this is going to disarm you with a flavor explosion, but all of these taste good, if not especially intense. The impression is a clean and refreshing one, with no hint of aftertaste. Whether I had one post-yardwork or just as an after-dinner television accompaniment, I enjoyed my experience with Briva.
If you are only avoiding calories and artificial ingredients, there are numerous flavored waters available. However, there are considerably fewer organic options, and that makes a difference in the price. That said, if you order two or more 12-packs on the web site, the bottles are $2 each. That’s a bit of a premium over a comparable non-organic flavored water, but a small one compared to some other products.
If you’re after certified organic hydration, Briva deserves your consideration.
