Thursday miscellanea #574

  • I haven’t watched any of the Senate goings-on, nor have I carefully read any news stories about same. Someone tell me if something genuinely unexpected happens. (This approach served me well during the first six months of the Trump administration.)
  • A friend posted a photo of a bagel on Facebook a few weeks ago, and that triggered a morning bagel-and-jalapeno-cream-cheese problem for me. It’s not many more calories than my customary breakfasts have been, but the fiber and protein content are both way down. So I get hungrier sooner. So I eat more later in the day. I’m going to have to break up with bagels.
  • I think I said this some time back, but there have been circumstances. So I’ll say it again:  watch for a renewed online presence for the North Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force soon!
  • We have made our spring beach plans. It’s been two years since we’ve been because of viruses and hurricanes. Here’s hoping.
  • I haven’t been at all tempted to watch Clarice. I consider Jodie Foster’s portrayal definitive, and I have no interest in seeing anyone else in the role. As talented as Julianne Moore is, I didn’t think she pulled it off either.
  • The forecasted rain chances for Sunday’s Daytona 500 have only increased, so I’m keeping my enthusiasm minimal. Local forecasts for winter precipitation on Monday and Monday night have also increased. We’ll see.
  • I can’t control whether merchants use the U.S. Postal Service to ship to me, but I can control what I use to ship to others. I got a consistent D+ or so human relations experience from a USPS employee yesterday for no reason at all. Furthermore, I got the impression she was well-practiced at delivering such. I think I’ll just see about UPS or FedEx from now on. Seems like the averages for such are better there.

  1. I, too, love a bagel and cream cheese, and I, too, suffer from the fact that it doesn’t stick long enough. So I have switched to using it for the occasional dessert on days I have a calorie deficit . Because, I love bagels and cream cheese

  2. You haven’t missed much of the Impeachment proceedings, Democrats presented a fairly factual account of Trump’s pattern of inciting/suggesting violence as far back as 2016. His lawyers countered with a barrage of annoying videos displaying numerous out-of-context clips of Democrats using some of the same statements that have been used against him. This 2nd Impeachment attempt will certainly fail the Senate since only 5, maybe 6 Republican Senators will take a stand against the former President. My only hope is that if he decides to run again in 2024, enough Republican voters have witnessed enough of his previous actions and don’t want a 2nd viewing.

    • Ray, welcome! Thanks for commenting.

I think that right now there are alarmingly high numbers of Trump supporters who won’t be dissuaded no matter what he does. So I think it’s pretty important that there be strong non-Trump GOP leadership. I’m hoping enough people feel that way to find some momentum between now and the midterms.

Of course, the other factor for Trump is something I tweeted about a couple of weeks ago:

“Even if our esteemed president really is subtly nodding to the 22nd/24th president #GroverCleveland, let’s not forget Donald Trump is a fat 74-year-old man with a hot temper, and very little in evidence to suggest prudent diet and exercise.

Trump needs to make it to 2024 first.”
