Friday miscellanea

  • Today is Friday the 13th. All y’all promiscuous young people keep your clothes on and your paws to yourself.
  • Nathan has a near-insatiable appetite for literature. He’s in a heavy Camus phase right now, and I don’t mean he’s just reading The Stranger—I mean he’s reading everything he ever wrote. He’s taking a break from science fiction classics to do that. I’m happy about this, yet a tad jealous of the mental bandwidth.
  • I am remiss in that I have not yet paid respects to the late Alex Trebek, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday. He was 80. Of course he is most remembered for Jeopardy!, but I remember enjoying him on High Rollers, Battlestars, and most memorably Pitfall, a Canadian game show for which he was never paid. Thank you, sir. RIP.
  • The 12-year-old Nissan at my house is consistently storing code P0301, which means cylinder #1 is missing. (I looked, though, and it’s still there. Ha ha!) The spark plugs are a pain to get to, so I haven’t, so they have 145K miles on them, and are thus a likely candidate. I’m going to change all of the coil packs while I’m in there too, just in case (and to hopefully make this the only time I have to do this job before the car is no longer in my life).
  • Oh, and last night 2020 decided that I’d get to replace the water inlet valve on the dishwasher on Sunday too. I really enjoy detaching the dishwasher from the house, sliding it out, and taking it all apart.
  • COVID has been pretty hard on college football this weekend. It’ll be interesting to see how this progresses, as there’s every reason to believe it’ll only get worse. We may ultimately end up with an abbreviated season that we wish we’d never started.
