Review: Bark & Barrel BBQ’s pastrami sandwich

I had a house-cured-and-smoked pastrami sandwich at Bark & Barrel BBQ (formerly Clyde’s BBQ) yesterday. I had one today, too.

One big reason Stan and Tina are among my very favorite restaurateurs is that they never rest. They develop and offer substantial and wonderful menus for their restaurants, but they also keep looking for new things.

This weekend Stan made some fresh pastrami, and it was one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten.

Bark & Barrel BBQ’s outstanding house-made pastrami sandwich. (Click for a much closer look.)

That’s the pastrami with homemade habanero slaw and sweet pickles. It needs nothing else, though you can get regular slaw if you want a tamer experience. The sweet vegetables set up the robust meat beautifully as it crumbles. This sandwich made me very happy.

(Did I mention I ate it yesterday too?) It was pitched as weekend-only, but maybe you’ll get lucky if you want one tomorrow. If/when they’re out, there are always numerous good things to get!

Bark & Barrel is operating within the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic, which means they’re pickup-only for the foreseeable future. They also have reduced hours, but they’ll generally be open when you would want to pick up. Check their Facebook page for sure.

Tina was at the window this afternoon when I picked up, and I put in my hearty vote for this sandwich to become a regular offering. Here’s hoping!

10/10
