- Four weeks from tonight.
- “Dad, how old were you when you first had a TV in your bedroom?” my 9-year-old son hopefully asked me last night. He wasn’t very excited to hear that I was 16. He was even less excited to hear how little I care about how many of his friends have one now. Daddy’s so mean.
- Several weeks ago, I found I took only about 15,000 steps in five workdays. (That’s putting a pedometer in my pocket on the way to my car in the morning, and taking it out when I arrive home in the evening.) I began gradually ramping that up, and this workweek, I’m taking 35,000 steps. This is about as many as I can manage without putting a sustained walk or two in my schedule (though it is remarkable how many steps you can get parking far away and taking circuitous routes to the restroom). When I go to 40,000 steps next week, I may see what I can accomplish on a single lunch break dedicated to the purpose.
- A few times I’ve undertaken the digitization of my fairly substantial collection of VHS clips and videos, only to hit a little snag and let it piss me off. Then several years go by before I think about it again, my tapes aging all the while. Well, I might finally have an effective workflow. This little $22 USB thingamajig seems to be working much better than the last couple-hundred-dollars “answer” I tried. Fingers crossed.
- One of the things I really enjoyed during the test run last night was a documentary on Lee Iacocca I recorded about 1987. Wow, that guy was a giant. It disappoints me that the last few chapters of his life have been so erratic.
- I don’t think I’ve ever, even once in my life, used a traditional pop-up toaster.
- Bubba Smith has died at 66. RIP, big man.

Tell Nathan, I was 19, and bought that first room TV myself for my college apt.
Oh, and tell him Lawrence will be 16 this fall, and there is still no hope for him to get a teevee in his room, either.
I still don’t have a TV in my room.
I didn’t have a TV in my room until I was married for several years.
And give it up on the $22 USB thingy! What/where/when/how?
So we’re clear, the TV I got when I was 16 had a 7″ screen. I got a 19″ GoldStar for high school graduation, though.
Terri, it’s this. Stick it between your VCR and a USB port, spend three minutes installing software, and you’re set. I’m impressed. The last time I tried this it seemed to work beautifully, but there were steadily worsening audio/video sync problems the deeper it got into any files it produced. This is just awesome so far.
