Cartoon character Dora the Explorer is getting a makeover.
Though Dora will not be officially unveiled until this fall, Nickelodeon and Mattel have released a silhouette of the update, and it’s not sitting well with some parents.
“Girls readily identify with Dora and we knew that girls would love to have their friend Dora grow up with them, and experience the new things that they were going through themselves,” said Gina Sirard, vice president of marketing with Mattel.
Two moms have determined from the silhouette that Dora is headed in a less-than-wholesome direction, and have started an online petition in protest.
(I don’t see what the big deal is, myself. Girl’s gotta make a living.)

Fighting: Despite the fun I had with the silhouette, I do think those opposing Dora’s “makeover” have valid points. There is nothing wrong and plenty right with Dora as she is.
