Going through the boys’ Halloween take…

  • “Fun Size”?  How does a one-tenth-scale candy bar earn “fun” in its moniker?
  • Still, lots of chocolate this year.  Well done, neighbors.
  • Hey, look!  There are some of those same old nasty peanut butter things in the loose orange and black wrappers that never look secure enough to risk.  Wonder what they taste like?  Wonder if anyone’s ever actually eaten one in recorded history?
  • Yes, I still feel like something of a dolt carefully screening, because Halloween candy poisoning/tampering essentially doesn’t happen.  I’m still going to do it.  You are too.
  • You ever see “DOTS” anywhere except in a Halloween bag?
  • Did you know that they still make candy cigarettes, but they’re called candy “sticks”?  Also, they don’t come in packaging that very closely resembles real cigarette packaging (right down to the almost-correct logo) anymore.  What the hell was up with that, anyway?  Cigarettes have been unambiguously bad for you in the medical literature since 1965 or so.  How did a seven-year-old in 1978 have access to candy cigarettes?
  • Mmmm, Bit-O-Honey (cough, gag, vomit).

  1. Dots are awesome. I buy a theater box of them every so often during the year. Not as good as Gummy SweetTarts or Sour Patch Fruit Salad, but in the pantheon of fruit candy it stacks up well to Skittles and Starburst. Yeah, Dots rule.

  2. We missed out on Halloween candy this year. 🙁 Way too much travel for band that weekend. Maybe next year I’ll make out like a bandit with the Halloween candy!

BTW – Did you see Mike Golic go off on the candy makers about the ‘fun’-size candy bars? It was quite funny!!!

  3. “Fun Size” … that’s the “trick” part of Trick or Treat. But, then, so are those nasty peanut things.

Dots are at the theaters …

Candy cigarettes ruled! Even the young mormon kids got those. Irony. Yeah.

Y’all remember those huge long tubes of colored sugar? I’m talking 3 feet long or so? I never understood why a kid would pick that over a honking big Hershey’s bar.

No lollypops this year? If neighbors weren’t handing out chocolate or good bubble gum (Hubba Bubba or Bubble Yum), they scored points for handing out Blow Pops or Charms pops.

  4. They’re “fun” because you can eat 10 of them. At once.

I like Dots. My dentist likes them even more than I do. I used to give the black ones to my dad.

I’ll take the Bit o’ Honey if no one else wants it. I like them. Mary Janes, too.
