- I went to sleep last night before finishing this post, but I wrote most of it yesterday so I’ll leave the title. The yesterday in this bullet means Thursday. The yesterday in the following bullet means Wednesday. “This morning” in the fourth bullet means Friday.
- Well, it finally happened. Someone took a photo of me yesterday that is so ridiculous and repulsive to me, I immediately knew it was my “before” photo and I was spurred to action. I’ll eventually show it to you, but it will be a while. (Never mind that it’s occasionally a challenge for me to get off the damned floor anymore, and that was apparently fine for months. I’ll take whatever it takes.)
- It looks like I’ll be able to get NFL Sunday Ticket this season for $249, which includes a healthy $100 discount for already being a YouTube TV subscriber and committing early. Slam-dunk. Aaron and I are rather excited about this.
- I got my driver’s license renewed in person at the Madison County Service Center on Plaza Blvd. in Madison this morning in four minutes flat. It would have taken me longer to run into Publix to get something. Great work, folks!
- I recommend The Night Agent highly. I’m looking forward to additional seasons.
- Both children are squared away on both classes and housing for the fall. This mostly happens automatically thanks to my kids’ (mostly) and Lea’s (the rest of the way) diligence, and I’m thankful for that.
- Neither Mia nor I had ever seen Pink Floyd—The Wall, so we watched it this past weekend. My expectations were modest, so I was pleasantly surprised to be as entertained as I was. There is a fair bit of pretention here, of course, but a lot of the imagery and production holds up (and some of it beautifully). And some of it is odd and dated. I’m positive you couldn’t follow the narrative without already knowing the basic plot.
- If they can be believed, it looks like Kiss will be limping to its touring end Saturday, December 2, at Madison Square Garden. Sigh. I’ve been through a lot with these guys, but it’s difficult for me to be anything but disappointed with them going out the way they are, with substantial portions of their show on backing tracks and not live. Who knows what’s next? I heard manager Doc McGhee say in an interview that Kiss was a brand like Marvel or DC. He strongly implied it was bigger than any specific people. I have substantial doubts Kiss survives the loss of Paul, but I’ll listen. (Only if there’s new music.)

How about a timely anecdote? Imagine you have a significant family history of Coronary Artery Disease. And your calcium score from a few years back was excellent. Then a pandemic, work-from-home situation lulled you into more sedentary time. Top that off with a lot of fast food and Cheetos, risk factors be damned. I have plenty of time to get back on the wagon.
So, then go for a couple of hikes over one weekend. Something feels different, off. The old heart rate is far too high, and there’s a tight pressure in your left chest, and you cannot breathe.
See the cardiologist a few days later. He is alarmed, and convinced, due to said risk factors, that there is a blockage, and a stent is needed. (long story here about arguing with insurance to get CT to confirm…). Then end up in ER and an overnight hospital stay, have the CT after some more snafus.
Completely clear. No plaque at all. Thank God. Nothing shows in lungs either. If this wasn’t a real wake-up call…. Wanna see the IV bruises?
I’m glad you are good, my friend!
