Thursday miscellanea #486

  • For a lot of my stint at Madison Books & Computers and Computers & More, the “486” was the hot computer. (As in Intel 80486 microprocessor.) I can remember one earnest-but-naïve salesman telling more than one customer “this should be enough to get you through the rest of the ’90s.”
  • Roy Clark has died at 85. He was a small but consistent part of my childhood on Hee Haw, and what an accomplished and talented musician besides. God be with his friends and family. RIP.
  • A long weekend and a busy short week ganged up on me on BoWilliams.com. Had another post to write yesterday but went to sleep instead. I usually like to put a little more space between Thursday miscellaneas.
  • Cold and cloudy days mean that when I purchase my eggs from Conni at lunch, I can leave them in the car all afternoon. I like that. Works for cold drinks too.
  • Happy Birthday to the original Xbox and my older son, each born on this date 17 years ago!
  • The new Publix is not identical to the other two most recently constructed ones, as I speculated it might be last week. There are large swaths of commonality, but some differences that seem arbitrary. Soft drinks are on the opposite end of the store from the entrance, for example. Also, we noticed it did not carry store-brand cat litter, and all of the chicken in the meat case was the organic Greenwise label. Hmmm. We may have some perhaps-too-transparent shopper profiling going on here.
  • Lea and I tried Jack Ryan. She made it three episodes and quit. I think I’m a little more interested in it than she is, but not much. I may try one more. I also started The Americans. I’ve watched six of those, so it has probably taken.
