Thursday miscellanea #618

  • We now have two college students. It is breathtaking how quickly we got here from changing their diapers.
  • The weather is looking quite satisfactory for the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500!
  • There is a turnkey church—as in, you buy it and you could hold a service the next day—for sale in my old hometown for $99,900. We’re talking pews, a piano, an organ, six HVAC units, classrooms, restrooms, commercial kitchen, and so forth, ready to go. Interested? Get in touch with my middle school classmate Annette and she will hook you up!
  • I loved Ray Liotta in No Escape and Unlawful Entry before I ever saw Goodfellas (and it’d be tough to argue against Henry Hill as his signature role). I thought he was amazing in Blow as well. He’s gone at 67. Farewell to a unique and talented actor, and God be with his family and friends. RIP.
  • “The majority of American evangelicals (and evangelical pastors) aren’t guilty of the abuse exposed in the Guidepost report…but we are all responsible for repairing our culture.” David French’s piece in The Atlantic is the best thing I’ve yet read on the Guidepost report on the horrific, depraved rot in the Southern Baptist Convention.
  • So Better Call Saul has reached its final season midpoint cliffhanger. See you July 11!
  • Tonight Lea and I were casually discussing our death arrangements (ahead of a serious conversation we’ll have with our attorney later this year). Wouldn’t it be cool if you could have yourself cremated and then the cremains crushed finely enough to work in an hourglass? Too morbid? I think it’s hilarious. “I just put the casserole in. Turn Dad over.” Heh!
