As I type the remnants of Hurricane Ida are mostly beyond us here at BoWilliams.com world headquarters. It seems to have been an event of little consequence in northern Alabama. The Paint Rock River is going to flood, but that happens every year or two with or without a tropical cyclone. The only novelties I observed here were rain and wind from the east. (And, oh, I purchased a replacement garage door bottom seal some months ago. Its installation has jumped to the top of my list.)
On the coast, of course, the narrative is considerably more grim. There are four deaths blamed on Ida so far, and early damage estimates are around $80 billion. More than a million people are without power. God be with all of those who are hurting and/or have been upended.
I’m thankful it wasn’t worse.
