The Republican Accountability Project is exactly what we need

The Republican Accountability Project came to my attention this morning.

Quoting the front page of the site, it aims to:

  • Support Republicans who stand up for democracy
  • Hold Republicans who lied about the election accountable
  • Refute lies and conspiracy theories about election fraud

One of its most visible initiatives is to erect these billboards. The U.S. Representative for my district, Mo Brooks, stars in one of them:

This effort is exactly the sort of thing that needs traction in the current political environment. Going forward, a significant role for Donald Trump in the GOP is not defensible by reasonable people. Intellectually I like the idea of a third party, but I don’t see nearly enough coalescence for a viable challenge. Attracting and keeping people we can support in the Republican Party is the best path.

(And don’t talk to me about the end of the Republicans forever. This isn’t the first or even the second time I’ve heard “the GOP is dead,” and I’m not that old.)

  1. Can you tell me how to reach the Republican Accountability Project?

My hope is they will buy Independent Billboard Companies. We need
this kind of business and we are connected to the communities we
    serve.

  2. LOL. The “Republican Accountability Project” is … Bill Kristol. His latest grift. He got jealous of that grifter cash Rick Wilson was pulling in and came up with his own “project”. These billboards attract no one but Democrats. They fool no one. The Neocon GOP is dying, and too long it lived.

    • Well, at least one part of your comment is demonstrably false, as I am attracted to the goals of the project and I am not a Democrat. I also find it unremarkable that Bill Kristol founded it. And? Someone had to.

Finally, if it makes you happy to toss around “neocon,” so be it. I’m interested in a post-Trump GOP.

  3. As I see it, these “republicans” want to quash speech. They are no different than the propagandists’ press. I can’t trust either to tell the truth. They are more Trump focused and filled with their insane angst. What about supporting the citizens of this country. They are giving cover to the “Cesar Chavez Model” of how to overthrow a democracy, starting with the ability to control vote counting and controlling the Supreme Court. Sounds like since the Lincoln Project got its black eye, this sprung up out of its ashes.

    • John, it seems like you’re dancing around the edges of a claim that the presidential election was stolen, or at least highly questionable. It was not. There is no legitimate basis on which to question the election results.

  4. The Republican Accountability Project is a joke. They should be held accountable for the misinformation on these stupid billboards stating Ted Cruz to resign. Senator Cruz and the other Senators had every right to oppose the results of the 2020 Presidential election. “We the People” have every right to know that every vote cast was legal and that every vote was validated. Numerous reports of voter fraud and irregularities were widespread and should be investigated.

Senator Cruz did not cause nor is he responsible for the invasion of the Capitol. As more reports come in, it proves you rushed to judgement and falsely accused these Senators of creating the invasion of the Capitol. It also proves that your organization is not true to the conservative values of the Republican Party. It proves that your organization backs the Rinos in Congress and their hated for President Trump and his supporters. You should immediately apologize to these Senators and their constituents and immediately remove these divisive and unfounded billboards. Your organization should be investigated to determine who you really represent as you do not hold true to a large number of Republicans in our great State of Texas.

    • Irene, does it not strike you as at least slightly odd that none of these “numerous reports of voter fraud and irregularities” ever had the credibility to advance any legal proceedings? There were at least five dozen opportunities for such (even including multiple Trump appointees on the bench!), and nothing happened. Why is that? More conspiracies?

Joe Biden is the legitimate winner of the 2020 U.S. presidential election. It is time to stop believing otherwise.

    • I like how there was no comment or response to this one. Silence. Crickets.

“Trump (and only Trump or anyone in any way associated with Trump) must be held accountable!” But silence about the thought of holding ANYTHING else accountable.
