I can’t believe I just typed that title. But it’s true.
After a nine-year run, Anaheim Chili on Cecil Ashburn Dr. in Huntsville has closed. I was a regular customer for eight of those nine years. It was one of my favorite restaurants ever. Check out some of my posts here.
Scott had a goodbye party tonight with penny draft, and it felt like a wake. There is considerable affection for this place in the community, and it will be deeply missed.
Anaheim Chili meant a lot to me. I took all of my friends there. The Rocket City Bloggers had a couple of events there. The boys and I always looked forward to the Father’s Day weekend “inferno” menu, for which Scott would prepare a few especially hot items. There were a couple of Carolina Reaper chili recipes born during such efforts that were memorable indeed. And, the Fatalii “fatal” fries were born on such a weekend, and became a regular menu item.
I have to say, though, at the end of the day—at the end of the restaurant’s run—my favorite meal was consistently the Texas chili platter, available only on Tuesdays.
It makes me sad that I won’t have another one anytime soon.
Scott’s not positive he won’t open another restaurant, and tonight he hinted at a cookbook as well. So there’s a solid shot we’ll have these premium gustatory experiences again.
Thank you for all of the wonderful food and your friendship, Scott. I’ll see you around, man.
