Thursday miscellanea #490

• Good riddance, Christmas traffic.
• I haven’t seen Bird Box, and I’m not sure I’ll bother with it now. It is too much of A Thing.
• These are pretty good Cliffs Notes of some of the businesses slated to open in the Huntsville area in 2019. There is a lot of cool stuff on this list. I hope we have the economic base to sustain it.
• On Monday, Alabama will play in its fourth straight College Football Playoff National Championship game. Alabama has made the playoff every year of its existence, losing a semifinal game in only the first CFP. Monday’s game will be the seventh time Alabama has played for the national title in the past ten years, having won five of the previous six times. This is now, unambiguously, the most impressive run in college football history. There is no up from here, folks, so make sure you’re savoring it. There will eventually be a down.
• The PC graphics card arms race is incredible, and my helping Nate with his system has led to an overdue education on power supplies for me. I’ll be trying my first transplant this weekend. I think I’m also getting excited about building my next box instead of buying it.
• Drove past a police presence on 565 on the way in this morning that is now a homicide investigation. There were four cruisers there, so I kind of figured it was something beyond a crash, but…sheesh.
• One of the greatest small appliance purchases I ever made was an inexpensive West Bend bread machine in 1996. It has only just perished. I replaced it with another cheapie (though a Cuisinart; I didn’t care for the design of the comparable West Bend offering else I’d have gone with it). We’ll try its first bread tonight.
