Thursday miscellanea #389

Inexplicably, there seems to be no college football tonight. Has the season started, or not? Saturday’s pretty thin too, particularly given all of the great matchups last weekend. Spread it out, ADs and other involved parties. We could have done with two or three of last week’s games this week and not felt shorted.
As I type, all forecasted low temperatures are in the 60s for the next two weeks (some only barely so, but still, good news). Beat it, summer!
To my friends who are still doing those quizzes on Facebook that say things like “nobody scores 10 out of 10!” and “this quiz is impossible!”: do you not see how blatantly you’re being manipulated? Have you ever taken one of those quizzes that was genuinely difficult (or even moderately challenging)? Do you really feel smarter afterward? OK, how about now?
I wrote a piece on bullying for Rocket City Mom. It’s my first actual column (i.e., not restaurant review) in quite some time there. Go read it and leave me a comment telling me how good it is, how much you can relate to it, and how handsome I am.
The Kroger invasion to the west took another step this week. The store at Wall Triana and Browns Ferry is now open. Haven’t heard from anyone yet whether it’s big-asser than the big-ass Kroger.
I bought this battery base for our Amazon Echo, and I’m excited about it all over again now. It’s easy to bring it into the kitchen for music, and now I want to customize my daily brief and use it in the morning too.
I should have done a review on McCutcheon’s Screaming Hornets hot sauce. I wound up using the whole bottle in less than a week. Seems like I found it at Whole Foods? I’ll have to get some more.
