Wednesday miscellanea

  • AL.com has an interesting piece on TV dinners today, though it may be a bit confused. Frozen dinners are not necessarily TV dinners. TV dinners come in aluminum trays, and they go in the oven. If both of those things aren’t true, it’s not a TV dinner. They may not even make real ones anymore.
  • The Tooth Fairy was finally arrested at our house last night, and she sang like a canary under those hot lights. Took the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus right down with her. Aaron wasn’t mad like Nathan was.
  • I’ve thrown artificial sweeteners overboard. I’m using real sugars in moderation for beverages. I take 8 oz. of grapefruit juice (100 calories) to work to distribute among four bottles of water. That’s working well so far.
  • I’ve finally surrendered fully to reading glasses. Sheesh. I can’t even set a couple of my watches. I refuse to carry them, though. I’ll have a home pair, a work pair, and a car pair. That shall be my one minor rebellion.
  • Weather is looking perhaps a bit more footballish this weekend. I’m glad. As mild as the first part of the summer was, it’s leaving us fairly oppressively.
  • I saved some restaurant nutrition information to my cloud storage this morning. It never occurred to me to put any nude photos of myself up there.
  • My phone contract is almost up. Looking forward to having Cortana in my pocket.

  1. Any chance you’ll do any kind of write up on the smart watch options available now that the market is “officially here” since Apple put its offering out. I figured since you’re a watch aficionado (spell check had to fix that one for me), you might have some sort of insight.

I’m still pretty unimpressed by everything I’ve seen, and I feel like the whole idea still hasn’t made it out of the “gimmick” category with me. The only thing I think Apple might have done a little better than the other guys is give the option to have it look like a piece of jewelry (kinda). I think other brands have done similar, but Apple’s seemed to go a little further. Using the crown to navigate the screen is novel (as far as I know), but it remains to be seen if it’s well received.

As I said, I’m overall pretty ‘meh’ on the whole idea of a smart watch, especially at $300+ for most of the serious models.

    • Like you, I’m not genuinely impressed with anything I’ve seen so far. I mean, they’re cool gadgets, but I don’t see the killer app yet. Plus, I like wearing a variety of watches anyway. Even my daily go-to only lands on my wrist Monday through Thursday.

The only smartwatch I ever got interested in was Fossil’s Palm OS watch. I never even played with one, though.

  2. Try to remember that reading glasses bring the focus to your face and away from your less than perfect behind. They also help on bad hair days. And they will help you see better and look fashionable – like walking and chewing gum at the same time. 🙂

    • What do you mean, my less than perfect behind? I’m in the top physical condition of my life, Dr. Fred! 🙂

I’m trying to be philosophical about it. I think it’s hitting me the way it is because it’s the first thing I really want to do that’s being sabotaged by advancing age.

I do realize the list gets much longer. 🙂
