- It’s a crazy week for lots of reasons—no particular one debilitating by itself, but exhausting in concert. Looking forward to the weekend, a reboot, and things settling down a bit next week.
- My mostly regular Wednesday lunch crowd had to fire Jefferson’s yesterday. The wings are good, but the service is just too erratic. You can’t plan to go during the week, because there’s absolutely no way to tell how long you’ll be in there. Sorry, folks. You had a whole lot of chances with us.
- As much as I really hate to admit that some small part of me has joined your whole pop culture orgy of mediocre crap—insert dismissive hand-wave here—I dig the new Psy video “Gentleman.” The song is definitely not as catchy as “Gangnam Style,” but the video is politically incorrect enough to piss off a bunch of people who are particularly comical in a pissed-off state. (And my apologies, to anyone who might be sensitive to such, for taking one of the bullets of one of my normally ceaselessly apolitical Thursday miscellanea posts in a slightly political direction.)
- I’m attending an all-day Scholars’ Bowl competition next week, in which Nathan will be a participant. I was probably never as good at any one thing in my life as I was at Scholars’ Bowl, so I’m looking forward to it. Go, little man!
- I don’t think I’ve been to Legion Field since September 11, 1999, when Charles and I watched Alabama beat Houston 37-10. That was the last good Mike DuBose year. Alabama won the conference that year, actually.
- I have a bad Foursquare problem. It’s quite addictive.
- This Saturday will make 12 years since Mom died. I can’t believe how long ago that’s getting to be now. Miss you, Mom. Love you.
