Well, here we are. You’ve only thought it’s been election season so far. Hammer down today.
Defeating such an arrogant, divisive, unloved, and ineffective sitting president should be almost a layup. However, the Republicans have infused the contest with needless drama by dragging a less-than-optimal field of candidates to the party (see also: Democrats, 2004).
But, we have what we have. I told Saintseester yesterday over sushi that a big part of me would be pulling for closure today. I remembered Jonah Goldberg’s column pointing out that President Romney would be on a very short leash.
“A president who owes you is better than one who owns you.” – Jonah Goldberg
Indeed.
Dudes and dolls, I’m not so good at the cheerleader thing. I’m much more in my element as a cynical smart-aleck type, watching for the women who laugh the loudest and longest and then further tailoring my shtick to them. (‘Cause, you know, I have a woman fetish. Heh.)
But I’m going to try a little bit here. If you don’t want Barack Obama to win a second term, you’re going to have to discover and nurture your inner happy warrior. I know your candidate’s not in the race. Mine isn’t either. I know you don’t trust Romney. I don’t either. But I distrust him much less than I do four more (read: nothing to lose!) years of the most unhinged president in history. (Plus, he’s actually sounding pretty good on foreign policy.)
Whether it’s today or a little later, it’s going to be Mitt Romney. Let’s please all row in the same direction—and enthusiastically—when that time comes.
