The boys brought home a flyer announcing a reading contest this week.
It’s an excellent example of why we in Alabama think it’s just darlin’ and exchange knowing Iron Bowl glances when you Yankees, midwesterners, or left-coasters start babbling about the intensity of your football rivalry.
“Be sure to check off which team your child is reading for – USC or UCLA!”
“Be sure to check off which team your child is reading for – Ohio State or Michigan!”
Doesn’t work, does it?
(By the way, surely they meant “Alabama or Auburn.” Only thing I can figure is they know it’s going to take Auburn folks a bit longer to read it, so it’s a courtesy to list them first, so they can stop reading sooner.)

Hizzoner wants to know if he can pass for an 8th grader, and where he signs up. Actually, his exact quote was: “Oh! COOL!”
Jenny, I’m tired of hearing about it, and I’m definitely feeling it. Auburn will be back to its rightful place this year, and I’ll be dead the next time they win a national title. All good.
Kelly, you tell Hizzoner that I’d be delighted for him to have a better year this year, because a good Tennessee means a more satisfying Alabama victory. 😀
I have no allegiance to either team but, due to your ending sentence, this post made me smile. It reminded me of when my southern Grandma would say “bless his heart”…
To take the rivalry up a notch, next year the books will be made from “Official Toomer Trees”.
