We all know Sarah Palin is crazy

We do?  Really?

“My friends, you know me to be neither rash nor impulsive.  I’m not given to wild, unsupported statements.” – Jor-El

No, in fact we do not all know Sarah Palin is crazy.  If you have said that (or something similar) to me, and you got the impression I agreed with you, then you misinterpreted my polite dismissal.

And it was polite.  And it was a dismissal.

Folks, if you know me at all, you know I’m a fairly methodical guy.  I can get excited about something like anyone, but after the initial rush, I seek to bolster it with rational thought.  Furthermore, though I don’t stand around pseudo-casually mentioning it, I’m smart.  According to a respected and fairly rigorous examination I took once:  you could count out 1,000 folks, and I’d have a higher IQ than 982 of them.

And I’m here to tell you that it is eminently possible for smart, methodical people to have a great deal of affection for Sarah Palin.  Believe it or not, said affection can even survive a lot of inquiry and analysis.

(Certainly more than many people have given our current president.)

I’m running out of patience with the implicit arrogance of people I know poking me in the ribs and having a laugh at not just Palin, but anyone who might feel something other than seething contempt for her.  If you do not believe that a thinking, reasonable person can like her, then that is a problem you are having, despite whatever ongoing validation for such a belief you receive in the media, on your “boards,” or whatever.

Frankly, I think I feel my screen of restraint dissolving.  For example, someday soon, perhaps I’ll cease being polite enough not to share what I really think when you tell me, with a straight face, that you consider a smirking hipster jackass on late-night television who tells the same four jokes over and over a “news source.”

Or maybe I’ll ask you to tell me again where you think wealth comes from, only this time we’ll take breaks to ridicule your ignorance, as well as the degree to which you embrace it.

Or we’ll have a sustained and examined cackle at your hilarious claim of “centrism,” in the same breath of your firm decision to vote for Obama again, despite the election being 18 months away.

See how much we don’t talk about in the interest of cordiality?  See how much I’m not part of your “thank God we’re not rubes like they are” crowd?

There’s a lot of noise out there. There are also a lot of crazies out there, all over the political spectrum.  But let’s be respectful, you and I.  Let’s keep it sophisticated.  Stop elbowing me and calling me a moron, however roundabout the manner in which you’re doing it.  In exchange, I won’t give you the political conversation that you really don’t want.

  1. GREAT post, Bo!! Thanks for saying many of the things I have been thinking (Well, except for that IQ part. I’d be on the other end of that statistic!) I have had such a fun time for the last few days watching the MSM have a COW over Sarah’s bus tour. It’s hysterical! They just don’t know what to do with themselves. And how dare she come into a state and not contact the Republican leadership or the governor or whoever first!!?? The audacity!

  2. Oh c’mon, Bo. [elbow elbow]

We *all* know she’s nuts. [poke poke]

Just an empty-headed ex beauty queen. [snort]

Let’s talk about *serious* politicians. [elbow]

  3. Thanks, Terri!

Kelly, I hear she prays to an invisible man in the sky too.

Susan, I understand. I still like her, but she’s not done much consistent with mounting a credible presidential campaign in the past couple of years.

I think, however, that she has substantial value in shaping the race (assuming she stays out of it). She can do the usual steering of issues, and when it gets down to two or three candidates separating themselves from the pack, her endorsement shall be very, very dear.
