Argiope aurantia in the front bed

So Lea emailed me this afternoon to ask if I’d seen the spider by the Japanese maple when I was home for lunch.  I hadn’t, but her description (and the less-than-optimal look at her photo on my phone) made me think it was probably our old friend Argiope aurantia (aka the yellow and black garden spider and the writing spider).

  1. Is it that time of year again? I’m afraid I don’t share your enthusiasm, Bo. I don’t know about the Alabama argiope, but the SC argiope has an affinity for weaving gigantic and dense webs right in doorways. Inevitably I forget to look before walking out of the house and get a face full of web. *Shudder* *Ick* *Involuntary spasms*

  2. My handle of choice comes from this spider, Bansidhe. 🙂

Don’t you still occasionally just miss the hell out of Acro? I do. It’s out there to be played in any number of places, but it’s just not the same. There was some kind of sociocultural convergence going on in that particular instantiation that was just perfect.
