- Whooping cough is killing people in California. In 2010. This doesn’t sound like autism hysteria is a factor, but hopefully it’ll get some of those folks’ attention. (What am I talking about? Of course it won’t. It’ll all be part of the same diabolical scheme.)
- I watched Pee-wee’s Big Adventure with the boys the other night. You know how some movies stand the test of time, their inherent excellence shining through even after 25 years? Yeah, this isn’t one of them.
- My grandmother once pointed out to me that there was a Bible verse stamped into every Edwards frozen pie plate. I enjoyed that, and looked for it every time. They stopped sometime fairly recently (I’d guess within the last five years or so). That’s sad.
- Sometimes I’ll encounter someone interesting on Twitter and decide to follow him/her, only to discover that s/he apparently does nothing else in the entire world but tweet. What’s with that? Come on; 12 to 15 tweets every waking hour?
- I could easily have gone the rest of my life without reading “Al Gore” and “muffled moans” in the same article.
- If I were shopping for a $25-30K coupe, the Hyundai Genesis would get my serious consideration. This is at least as much a steal as the sedan.
- I guess Obama found some ass to kick.

McCh. had to go, unfortunately.
What about the “come hither look” from Mr. Gore? (shudder)
We had a nut-job in this office (they’ve since moved to Huntsville, as a matter-of-fact) that thought immunizations were from the devil. Folks that counted on the REST of us immunizing our children to keep theirs safe. This person also believed in foreskin restoration for those whose parents mutilated them in infancy. They were big proponents of a device called Tug Ahoy. It’s real…look it up.
Oh, and Twitter…equally annoying has to be me. I’m taking a grad course this summer & we had to get a Twitter account to tweet weather updates…which is all I do on it. I haven’t quite figured out Twitter’s allure…I prefer Facebook. Bo, I sure do appreciate you being one of my six “followers,” but I bet you have been wondering why the hell I’m always posting the heat and humidity.
Terri, I know that’s a popular and well-supported opinion, but I’m not sure I agree. I think refusal of his resignation might have been stronger for everyone.
Marianne, I’ve wished all day I hadn’t read that Gore story. Gah-ross.
During one of our first visits to our pediatrician (whom we love), she was very clear that her patients got immunized (the unstated premise being that if we weren’t on the same page, the relationship was over). There were many endearing things about her, but that was a big one.
Frequently I do just post on Twitter what I’m doing. I also like it for stupid little stuff that I think is funny or notable, but that isn’t enough to warrant a whole blog entry. If it’s highly topical and/or I’m worried I’ll forget it, I tweet it. If it’s not, I often hang onto it for a Thursday post.
I think relieving McChrystal became much easier knowing he had Petraeus in the wings at CENTCOM. Easy to bench Mark Ingram if you have Trent Richardson waiting.
Gore…oh man, just, oh man. Why is it these powerful, rich goofballs have problems getting laid (allegedly)? Global warming indeed.
Pee Wee’s Big Adventure was never funny or relevant. Consider it Father Time doing you a tremendous favor. Let me know when you show the kids Kurosawa’s _Seven Samurai_.
The hospital urged me to get the pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine before I left the hospital with Rebecca. I did and we are trying to get one for Russ.
I need more analysis from you on the McCh. thing. I just don’t see how Obama could let him stay in there. He has to be the BIG man and PROVE how big and tough he is (since he is such an ineffectual idiot). But, anyway, give me more, oh great one (that being you).
🙂
Not one comment on the tug ahoy?? I am so sad.
Terri, I guess I viewed it as an opportunity for Obama to genuinely rise above. Might it not have been truly presidential for him to say something like:
“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.
General McChrystal and I had a good and productive conversation this morning. He has offered his resignation. Though I appreciate the spirit in which it was offered, I have refused it. The continued, unwavering execution of our Afghanistan strategy, with a strong and respected leader like General McChrystal, is far more important than whatever personal squabbles we may have. We owe it to our men and women in uniform, to the American people, and to the Afghani people to make the best choice that we can for them. General McChrystal continues to be that best choice. Thank you.”
That is strong and principled, and would have gotten my positive attention. That, to me, is a bigger man speaking.
I don’t think anyone can reasonably say the guy didn’t screw up. Going and talking to Rolling Stone about what a bunch of assholes you work with is far beyond “getting a little mouthy,” after all. Hell, I’m not even saying I think it should have gone that way.
I’m just claiming a lot of gray.
Marianne, there really wasn’t a lot of mystery from your context, and a quick Google confirms that the cleverly named Tug Ahoy is exactly what I thought it was. Bad, bad, bad. Bad. 🙂
I like the line from the article accusing Al of having “mauled her”. Reminds me of the infamous Tipper kiss.
