- Nathan, 8, eagerly asked me the other day how old I was when I got my first mobile phone. It was fun to watch his face when I casually said “oh, 22 or 23, I guess.”
- I had to Google vuvuzela today.
- So the massive superconference realignment has become Colorado (and possibly Utah) to the Pac-10, Nebraska to the Big Ten, and Boise State to the Mountain West. Not nothing, but kind of a yawner, considering the craziness that was under discussion less than a week ago.
- I think I’ve seen six or seven turtles crossing the road so far this year. That seems high compared to past years. It’s probably global warming.
- I’m sitting here offended at Kim Carnes’ inclusion in a one-hit wonder countdown. Yes, “Bette Davis Eyes” was a huge hit, but she had a whopping 15 other songs hit the Hot 100, and 7 of those were Top 40. “Crazy in the Night”? “Voyeur”? “Draw of the Cards”?
- “Obama’s eloquence failing him is like Bush’s cussedness and certitude failing him, like Clinton’s charm and uncanny ability to feign sympathy failing him. It’s like watching Fred Astaire trip over his shoelaces. If Obama can’t count on that, what can he count on? His wealth of experience in the private sector? His vast knowledge of policy arcana? All of the political capital accrued during his long tenure in the Senate?” – Kevin D. Williamson

When my niece was 10 she was lobbying for a cell phone (didn’t get one until her 13th b’day) she appealed to me with, “You had your own phone when you were my age, did you?” I deadpanned, “My parents were far too cheap to pay for a second phone line.”

Yeah, but my daughter looooooves to play with the little classic Atari plug-in game I bought. (Not that it stops her from angling for a DS, but…)
It made me really step back to think that at 6, she can program the DVR, use the computer, correctly use a cell phone… and at that age I was still watching Sesame Street.
vuvuzela (n) – annoying ass plastic horn that for some reason the World Cup announcers treat with the same cultural reverence as the French beret and the Italian moped…wait, maybe they’re on to something.

funny about the phone! I remember my first phone stayed in my glove box because it was for emergencies and it was .50 a minute!
