How to Train Your Dragon, and Monaco Pictures disappoints again

We enjoyed How to Train Your Dragon tonight.  I had my guard up after reading this editorial, but I couldn’t really find anything in the film on which to hang his thinking.  It was fun, the visuals were effective, and it was the right length.  The only complaint I had was that the writing wasn’t particularly sharp.

We saw it at Hollywood 18.  It was the nicest movie theater in town when it was built 15 or so years ago, and it’s still in good condition and of reasonable quality, but newer properties are pummeling it now.  The “crowds” we saw tonight appeared highly incompatible with sustainability.

Indeed, we had plans to see it at Monaco Pictures.  However, the 6:45 showtime I noted this morning was deleted from the web site at some point this afternoon.  No note, no explanation, nothing—just gone.  Folks, that is really, really irritating, and it’s not the first time you’ve done it to us, either.  The same thing happened with WALL-E, longtime readers may recall.

If there is a showtime on a web site, there needs to be a corresponding showing.  I believe I’ll write a letter this time.

  1. When are they showing Birdemic?

Dragon has like an unwordly score on Rotten Tomatoes – like Citizen Kane high. On the other hand, Furry Vengence is at a whopping 7%. Bama Big Kid went to see it with his friend and her family – I didn’t have to go, so I give it a Two Encino Men Way Up!!!!

  2. kemtee, I’m sure we’ll buy it, so we’ll see it a bunch more. 🙂

BamaDan, that’s absurd. Seriously? What is that, the director’s mom from multiple IPs? It was good. It wasn’t a seminal film of the last 100 years.

Bama Big Kid saw it with his friend and her family, eh? Hmmmm. I must ask him about that next time I see him. 🙂

    “Two Encino Men”–beauty.
