Thursday miscellanea #384

  • The boys started school yesterday and they seem fine. Aaron is particularly mellow this year. He’s historically had more of an adjustment to make. Pleased (for him) that the stress is abating a bit.
  • Yesterday I had occasion to sit in a waiting room and experience roughly 30 minutes of one of those coffee table chat-and-chuckle sorts of morning shows. I’m amazed at how banal they’ve gotten, and horrified anyone watches them deliberately.
  • Melanie and I had Shaggy’s tacos for lunch earlier this week, following a meeting I had in her neighborhood. I tried a burger twice there and was never very impressed, but Christy convinced me to go get a taco and see what I thought. They’re quite tasty. The beef is appealingly seasoned, and just greasy enough to make the shell pliable so it doesn’t explode when you bite it. They taste a lot like Taco Bell tasted 30 years ago, actually.
  • Tough weeks for Rolando McClain and Trent Richardson. Hate that. They each gave me such enjoyment at Alabama, and neither of them seems capable of finding a solid path beyond.
  • The peak power bill—I hope—has arrived. $396.25. I don’t think we snuck under $400 last year, so I’m not complaining too much.
  • It’s an unfortunately light racing weekend. No IndyCar, no F1, and both NASCAR series are at Watkins Glen (yawn). Must be my cue to get some things done around the house.
  • Watch Rocket City Mom tomorrow for details on my visit to Grille 29 to sample their Huntsville Restaurant Week offerings. Executive chef Cara Thompson is pretty much a rock star, as far as I’m concerned.
