Thursday miscellanea #371

  • The IndyCar season is underway, and congratulations to Juan Pablo Montoya on winning at St. Petersburg. Looking forward to American open-wheel racing’s return to Phoenix a week from Saturday.
  • Frank Sinatra Jr. has died at 72. RIP.
  • We had a fantastic experience with Kevin Davis for our churches’ Upward season-end celebrations. He was responsive, affordable, and professional, and his shows were excellent. Thank you, Kevin. We’ll see you again soon.
  • I saw an unmarked black Silverado crew cab with someone pulled over on 565 this week. Our state troopers, they’re rather sneaky. Pay attention. The speed limit is 70. I think if you keep it to 77 or less, you’ll be fine.
  • So alcoholic root beer is a thing. Wow. OK, if you like root beer and you like to drink: Not Your Father’s Root Beer and Coney Island Hard Root Beer are both excellent. Stay away from Best Damn Root Beer. Be careful. The alcohol is all but absent in the taste and finish, and they’re pretty strong.
  • I’m becoming steadily less confident that we’re going to get another freeze. But, we’re still forecast to go to the mid-30s Sunday morning. Good for the electric bill. Bad for the prospect of killing mosquitoes.
  • If you have an opportunity to be gracious, you should generally take it.

  1. I agree completely with your assessment of the hard root beers. Not Your Father’s (NYF) also has a hard ginger ale that is really good. I like NYF in a bottle, but the Coney Island is really good on draft (which can be had at Pie in the Sky).
