Thursday miscellanea #359

  • I have a friend who got a DNA profile for her dog from two different services. One said German shepherd-Staffordshire terrier-border collie. The other said Shetland sheepdog-Australian cattle dog-Akita. Wouldn’t you think the two would be substantially similar? I think this is excellent evidence, anecdotal though it may be, that these “tests” are of limited value. Just eyeball your dog. You’ll be as right as anyone else, it seems.
  • I’ve been trying to get the identity of one of Rush Limbaugh’s bumper songs for years, to no avail. I finally moved quickly enough so Cortana could hear it. It’s “Knock On Wood” by Amii Stewart. Meh. Anticlimactic. I like the beginning much more than when she starts singing.
  • Almost there on Christmas shopping. I had solid advice for some of my tricky people.
  • Thought Alabama would get Oklahoma in the semis. Just delighted to be back. Hope we can take home the trophy this time.
  • I think Mark Richt at Miami might be the only truly excellent coaching hire so far. Muschamp to Carolina feels potentially disastrous.
  • The Aldi Cinnamon Toast Crunch knockoff is quite good, but not perfect. Too much sugar comes off the cereal, so the final drink of cinnamon milk (the best part) is too sweet.
  • Is it really going to be 74 degrees on Saturday? Have you ever attended a Christmas parade in shorts and a T-shirt?

  1. I’m not delighted to draw Oklahoma.

Va. Tech and Virginia made excellent coaching hires. Especially Va. The quality of coaching in the ACC needed to improve, and it has. SC botched their hire tremendously. And they had a head start on everyone.
