Thursday miscellanea #231

  • It got all the way to 86º yesterday.  If the forecast for the next week is at all accurate, my hopes for a late mosquito-killing freeze are dashed.
  • I’m having to get up 30 minutes earlier than usual right now.  I need the time to shovel the pollen so I can get the Technical Writing Express out of the garage.
  • I’m taking a couple of weeks to see if I can make friends with OneNote.  It seems essentially like a formalized and much more capable version of snippets.txt—a text file I’ve kept close for the past decade or so.  So it ought to slot right in to the way I do things.
  • Straight to Ale’s Monkeynaut IPA is now available at my local Publix.  A six-pack of cans is $8.99.  It’s about two-thirds as tasty as draft Monkeynaut, but only slightly more than a third the price.
  • The new Saxon record is quite good.  I have extolled their virtues before, but in case you haven’t yet taken note:  Saxon is a remarkably consistent heavy metal machine.  If you like it old school and you’re not following them, you should.
  • Coach Saban said today he feels good about the offensive line.”  What a great thing to hear!
  • (The original) Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century , both Glen A. Larson productions, make occasional appearances on my office TV.  I have them on as one might listen to music.  I’ve seen them all enough that I make a game of spotting props that made it a little too intact from the former to the latter.  (You can also do that from the first season to the second of Buck Rogers.)  Of course, a lot of the guest stars are common too (and you can even reach out to BJ and the Bear with some of those).
