Thursday miscellanea #139

• Looking forward to seeing my sister and niece next week!
• Evening traffic north of 20 and west of Rideout has unambiguously degenerated to awful.  Worse, there’s no easy way to solve the problem.  I suppose my grandchildren might enjoy an eventual bypass.  I-665, anyone?
• Remember Sonora Chicken Pasta at Ruby Tuesday?  It’s been off the menu for several years, but I found a copycat recipe recently that’s almost perfect.  I’ll try to polish the last of the inconsistency from it on my next attempt, and when I nail it I’ll share it here.  (Then I’m going to see how much I can clean it up nutritionally.)
• Spent some time with Melanie at Best Buy last week, and played with an iPad for the first time.  What a marvelous toy!  True to form, though, Apple safely prices them outside my danger zone.  Gadgety as I am, I’ve still resisted an i-anything.
• Damnation, it’s hot.  You know, that still-soupy-at-10:00-hot?  I really hope this week is an anomaly and not a bellwether.  When it’s 95º or hotter, it takes half my evening commute for the Technical Writing Express’s merely adequate air conditioner to catch up.
• Just replaced my 11-year-old Yamaha receiver because the right surround channel went.  I was still perfectly happy with it so I’d rather it hadn’t failed, but I’m not particularly disappointed.  It was a flawless performer until that malfunction, and that’s an eminently reasonable lifespan for mass-market A/V gear.  It was a no-brainer to stay with the marque.
• I still feel bad for J.R. Hildebrand.  Sorry, man.  No way to feel better about that.  Just have to move on.
