Thursday miscellanea #639

  • We’re back from another enjoyable family spring break trip to Fort Morgan. With our children in young adulthood we never know when the last such mine-and-Lea’s-family junket is, but we know every one could be it. Thankful for another opportunity.
  • It’s quite easy to drive Lea’s new car fast. We were just south of Hartselle coming home yesterday—you know, in that so, so ready to be home place in the trip?—and I came over a rise to a state trooper in the median. The speedometer read 87 mph. Cooked. Oh, but guess what? The trooper was looking at southbound traffic! Whew. Consider my knuckles rapped, karma.
  • A piece from Fiddler on the Roof just came on the radio, so I glanced at the Wikipedia article and spied the name Chaim Topol, who played Tevye in the film as well as on Broadway for many years. I said “hmm. I bet that’s the same Topol who was Dr. Hans Zarkov in Flash Gordon.” And so it is. Sadly—oddly—he just died last week. RIP.
  • Did Baker Mayfield save his career with his Rams heroics? Maybe.
  • The new Extreme song is great. The new Metallica song is good. The new Winger song might grow on me.
  • The Barber race is up against finals for our children, so we’ve canceled those plans. This season is the third of three contracted races for the Nashville street race, which has been an absurd crashfest, and they’re building the Titans a new stadium too. Here’s hoping for a move to Nashville Superspeedway in 2024.
  • We might get enough hours at a low enough temperature Sunday night/Monday morning to make a difference with the bugs in a month. I’m not sure we did earlier this week. Fingers crossed.
