Thursday miscellanea #623

I enjoyed Better Call Saul, but only rarely over its run did I find it as engaging as Breaking Bad. I’ve been back through Breaking Bad, methodically and completely, twice, and have enjoyed it as background probably another complete viewing’s worth. I doubt I’ll ever watch Better Call Saul again.
Now I’m waiting for Animal Kingdom to wrap, and it’s about to. It’s a bag of Cheetos to Breaking Bad‘s steak, but I still want to finish it. (And they’re really good Cheetos.)
I missed that Tom Bearden died in February. He was quite a character. I wrote about him once on BoWilliams.com. God be with his family and friends.
We visited the Salt Factory Pub last night for dinner with friends. The company was excellent, the service was within tolerance, and I wish I’d found the food more notable. I had salmon, and we shared some Cajun egg rolls and fried calamari for appetizers. I thought my fillet was a little small for the money, but the quality was fine. I could eat there again. But the bar keeps getting higher around here, and in case you haven’t noticed, the average dinner check has shot up a lot. Just “fine” or “OK” doesn’t cut it anymore.
The SSD in Aaron’s two-year-old laptop is failing. I’m not impressed. The speed advantage over and lower power consumption than old-fashioned platters make them worth it and I get that, but in my experience the supposed edge in reliability isn’t there.
The last oval of the season is scheduled for 5 pm on Saturday at World Wide Technology Raceway (aka “Gateway”). It’s usually a pretty good race. Stay away rain!
No 90s are forecast through the end of the month. Enjoy.
