I was repairing something this weekend and was reminded of something I wrote here 13+ years ago:
“Finally, while I am normally a strong proponent of purchasing inexpensive store-brand packages of common chemicals (aspirin, bleach, and the like), that recommendation does not extend to cyanoacrylate adhesive (super glue). Cheap super glue is exactly the same stuff as Krazy Glue or Loctite brand. But it comes in plain tubes with screw caps, which are perfect for a) glopping out all over the place; and b) drying up rather quickly once opened. When you pay for a name, you’re usually paying for a much better application method and storage container as well.”
When you need super glue, you’re trying to save something, yes? And sitting there with a ruined something because you couldn’t dispense the glue properly isn’t the time to be wishing you’d ponied up a whole ‘nother dollar or whatever for a name brand.
My favorite is Krazy Glue with the precision tip, for three main reasons:
- The bottle is transparent. This makes it easy to see how much you have left, as well as knowing exactly when to expect your drop to begin forming (if you’re trying to get a really small one).
- The top for the container itself is essentially a little push pin. It’s nearly impossible to clog the bottle when you’re sticking finished metal into the opening when you’re done. Plus, if you need more precision than the bottle can deliver, you can use it as an applicator.
- You can set the top of the outer container flat on your work surface, and rest the Krazy Glue bottle in it as needed. This keeps you from making a mess, and also makes it a predictable grab when you need it again.
Super glue comes much closer to delivering on its promise when you can reliably use it with finesse.
I’m not saying you’ll have a good day if you use Krazy Glue with the precision tip. But I will assert that it’s harder to have a bad one.
Happy Monday. Have a good week.
(No connection to the Krazy Glue people other than being a happy longtime customer.)
