Thursday miscellanea #588

  • I have had a good time with my (not) Tommy Tuberville Twitter account so far. It has a bit more traction than, and it’s not as labor-intensive as, the aborted intern text series. Most of what “Senator Tomerville” tweets is pretty ridiculous, but most of what the actual guy says is at least somewhat ridiculous. So I get engagement, in some cases sustained and hilarious, from people who fall for it. Are you on Twitter? Are you following Senator Tubby Tomerville? If not, then why not?
  • Charles Grodin has died at 86. I generally enjoyed him in anything he did, but my favorites were Seems Like Old Times and Taking Care of Business. He was also a good foil in The Incredible Shrinking Woman, which is special to me because it’s one of the last movies I can remember watching as a family with my parents. RIP and thanks for the laughs.
  • Once in a while I encounter someone, almost always on Facebook, who does not know how to copy and paste. That’s hard for me to get my brain around. It’s not always an older person who’s using a computer for the first time, either.
  • Tim Tebow, 33, has signed with the Jaguars, where he is expected to be a second-string tight end. Color me intrigued and not counting him out.
  • We are getting an Amazon.com fulfillment center in Huntsville, which will make the third one in Alabama. Perhaps this means we are a step closer to same-day delivery? Happy for further diversification of the local job market regardless.
  • So bittersweet seeing another round of my Upward kids graduating from high school. Soon there will be no more.
  • Indy qualifying is this weekend, as is the Monaco Grand Prix (which hasn’t been much of a race lately, but fingers crossed). I’m already checking the weather for the Indy 500, even though a ten-days-out forecast is worse than worthless.
  • I just reset my popular post lists in the left sidebar. The daily one will be good immediately, of course, but expect a bit of settling for the all-time list.
